Sunil Gavaskar Highlights India’s “Problem” in Twenty20 Internationals. Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar believes that India’s inability to defend totals without Jasprit Bumrah has been a concern for a long time and that the management has to make some changes.
Team India did not get off to a good start in the present three-match T20I series against Australia, as the hosts were unable to defend 208 runs in Mohali, while the bowlers failed to put up a battling performance. Only Axar Patel was able to take wickets while while being economical. Jasprit Bumrah did not participate in the first T20I and it remains to be seen whether he returns immediately for the must-win second T20I.

Sunil Gavaskar India’s inability to defend without Jasprit Bumrah is a concern for a long time and that the management has to make some changes.
“This is India’s flaw. This is not a new issue. It’s been a couple years now that they’re having difficulty defending without Jasprit Bumrah. The score can be defended when Bumrah is around, but without him, they give away even 200-plus totals. Having stated that, we must consider a solution. Otherwise, it may harm them in the future “Gavaskar stated on Sports Tak following India’s first T20I against Australia.
When questioned about Jasprit Bumrah, Gavaskar stated: “Concerning his (Bumrah’s) fitness, I believe that because he is such a key component of the squad, the team management wants him to be completely fit before being selected in India’s XI. Perhaps he will play in Nagpur.”
“But here is the thing. When the Indian team is chasing a target, they win matches. But it’s the opposite the other way around. The bowling that is needed between overs 16 and 20, they still don’t have it. This is the reason that team is ending up on the losing side,” he added.
India and Australia will square off in the second T20I on Friday in Nagpur.
