Harmanpreet Kaur Leads India To First Series Win In England

Harmanpreet Kaur struck a sparkling unbroken century to lead India to an 88-run victory in the second One-Day International. Giving the country its first series victory over England since 1999.
Harmanpreet Singh recalled memories of the 2017 World Cup with a brilliant 143 not out off only 111 balls as India posted a huge 333 for 5. On Wednesday night, India bowled out England for 245 in 44.5 overs, with medium bowler Renuka Singh (4/57) taking four wickets.

Danni Wyatt’s 58-ball 65 was the one bright light in an otherwise disappointing performance for England bats.

The Indian women last won an ODI series in England in 1999, when they won 2-1.

England needed a quick start to chase down the imposing score. Nevertheless, Renuka prevented them by eliminating two top-order batters in Emma Lamb (15) and Sophia Dunkley (1).

By the conclusion of the eighth over. The hosts were down to 47 in 3 when Tammy Beaumont (6) runs out.

Alice Capsey (39) and Wyatt added 55 runs for the fourth wicket. Also, Wyatt scored another 65 runs with skipper Amy Jones (39). Before England’s chase broke apart in the 30th over, Renuka clears up Wyatt.

Charlie Dean (37) and Kate Cross (14) did their best in the end. But the challenge is too much for them as India win magnificently.

Harmanpreet was sent in to bat and hit 18 fours and four sixes in her 111-ball performance. She also had a magnificent 112-run fourth-wicket standing with Harleen Deol (58 off 72 balls).

She eventually scored 50 runs with Pooja Vastrakar (18). And 71 runs in four overs alongside Deepti Sharma (15 not out) for an unbeaten sixth-wicket stand.

Harmanpreet Kaur literally took the game away from England

However, Harmanpreet practically pulls the game away from England in the final three overs. As the 334-run goal in a WODI always seemed impossible despite the field being a batting belter.

The Indian team scored 62 runs in the final three overs, courtesy to its captain, who was in magnificent form while reaching her sixth WODI century.

The innings included Harmanpreet’s signature slog sweeps over cow corner, which resulted in a few of sixes, as well as dismissive sixes over cover region.

With the surface providing little assistance for bowlers, hitting across the line was relatively straightforward, and England’s bowling attack suffered slightly, with only off-spinner Charlie Dean (1/39) finishing with decent stats.

The worst suffer was Freya Kemp, a rookie left-arm seamer who plays well up until the end of her seventh over, in which she gave only 28 runs.

Harmanpreet’s superiority was so overwhelming that Deepti Sharma, who still holds the individual record (188) for an Indian batter in WODIs, was more of a spectator during their sixth wicket match.

India Women 333/5 (Harmanpreet Kaur 143 not out, Harleen Deol 58, Freya Kemp 1/82) in 50 overs.

England were bowled out for 245 in 44.2 overs (Danni Wyatt 65, Renuka Singh 4/57).
