Jasprit Bumrah discusses his relation with Rohit Sharma. Bumrah stated that Rohit has given him the freedom to express himself to the players.
Indian speedster Jasprit Bumrah praised his captain, Rohit Sharma, for recognizing his potential and supporting him at the start of his IPL career with the Mumbai Indians. Bumrah was recently named vice-captain of the Mumbai Indians and will be Rohit’s deputy in the upcoming IPL 2022, in addition to his vice-captaincy stint for India in the ongoing Sri Lanka T20Is.
Since his debut in 2016, Bumrah has been a revelation for India, growing by leaps and bounds in terms of taking on responsibilities and bowling the tough overs. He has been the go-to man for skippers more often than not, and there is currently no better exponent of nailing the yorkers in the death overs than Bumrah. With his awkward action and accurate variations, he is one of the most difficult bowlers to face.

Rohit had a lot of faith in me from the beginning: Jasprit Bumrah
Bumrah explained how Rohit helped him out during his early days in a chat on Ravichandran Ashwin’s official YouTube channel, noting the former’s trust in him. He went on to say that Rohit believes in his abilities after seeing him bowl in the nets.
“The relationship has been excellent since the beginning. When I first joined the team, Ricky (Ponting) was captain, but I wasn’t getting much playing time. Under Rohit’s tutelage, I began to play a lot more. He had a lot of faith in me… and he instilled a lot of faith in me. He saw me bowling in the nets and was impress with my abilities. He was always there for me and told me to believe in myself. Had a lot of faith in me from the beginning. “He’ll give me the important overs, and that told me, ‘OK, I can do the job,'” Bumrah said to Ashwin.
Bumrah acknowledged the difficulties of doing the difficult job for the side, but cherished finding ways to get out of it. He used the example of Rohit allowing Bumrah to set his own field to demonstrate how much faith the skipper has in his premier quick.
“Sometimes, you’re still trying to persuade me that maybe it’s the right decision that I’m doing the difficult job. But they put you in a difficult situation so you can figure out how to get out of it. Our friendship has not changed. To date, he has placed a high level of trust in me, and we have reached the point where he tells me to set the field on my own and notify him of any changes. So far, the process has been successful, and our relationship has grown significantly,” he added.
