Women’s Asia Cup 2022: India’s strategy is defend by current coach Ramesh Powar following a defeat to Pakistan. Team India is beat by Pakistan by a score of 13 runs in the fourth match of the Women’s Asia Cup.

Some thought India’s plan against Pakistan in the Women’s Asia Cup was foolish. While others thought it was lavish. In a high-profile encounter, the team management elect to put Harmanpreet Kaur at number seven. While Pooja Vastrakar was place ahead of Richa Ghosh. The result, India failed to capitalize in the run chase and lost by 13 runs to their arch-rivals.

Right after the game, India’s game strategy is call into question. Pakistan, who was defeat by Thailand in the previous match, has the joint worst win-loss record since the start of 2021. The India’s inability to win against them has put Ramesh Powar and company in a bind.

On the other side, the team’s head coach defended India’s strategy for the game against Pakistan, pointing out that team management intended to put young players under pressure to see how they responded.

“We didn’t want our regular chasers to come in but try out someone younger who can take that role up. This was our fourth game [of the tournament] and we wanted to expose Pooja Vastrakar, Richa Ghosh and [Dayalan] Hemalatha, and see how they go through these pressure situations,”

Ramesh Powar said

“Harmanpreet [Kaur], Jemi [Jemimah Rodrigues] and Smriti [Mandhana] have been doing it for a long time. The purpose was to send the others up so that they can feel that pressure because we want to see how they react to such situations, especially when they may face it in a World Cup game. So we wanted to take a chance and address the issue,”

Ramesh added

Ramesh Powar discussed the luxury of changing up the lineup for the India-Pakistan game.

Powar is unconcern about the Women in Blue suffering a loss at the hands of their arch-enemy because they are still in first place in the standings. India has managed to win three of its four games, and the squad is currently cruising into the Asia Cup’s knockout stages. Because of this, in Pawar’s opinion, the young people were sent up in the pecking order at the proper moment and under the correct circumstances.

“Six league games allow us to do that. If this was a format with two groups and four teams in each, maybe we wouldn’t have tried it. We want to build our team for all conditions and all kinds of pressure situations. Obviously, we want to win, but when we face issues that need to be addressed, we should address it,”

said the 44-year-old.

Regarding the value of taking a risk, Powar is of the opinion that the team’s position at the top of the standings gave them the freedom to experiment. Additionally, he stood up to explain that there was no hesitation while making the decision during the “big game.”

“Big game? Not really. Otherwise, we wouldn’t have tried different things. Most players have played enough to understand the importance of an India-Pakistan game. They also understand where we stand in the league table and why we did it. This isn’t something only the team management is thinking. We came together as a group and thought we needed to get through tough situations under pressure with different set of match winners, not just Jemi, Smriti or Harman.  We have confidence [in the younger players], that is why we tried it,”

Head coach added.
