In this year’s auction, some IPL teams will go all out for Cameron Green: Ravi Ashwin

In this year’s auction, some IPL teams will go all out for Cameron Green: Ravi Ashwin. ‘He is displaying his big-hitting prowess,’ Ashwin said of Green.

Indian veteran spinner Ravi Ashwin heaped praise on Australia’s emerging all-rounder Cameron Green and made the bold claim that teams in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) Auction would be eager to sign him. Green has been in excellent form for Australia this year, scoring 686 runs and taking 22 wickets.

When people were wondering how Green would fare in ODIs, he demonstrated his big-hitting abilities, according to Ashwin. He also mentioned that the Australian can strike hard and sweep against spinners. Green scored 114 runs and took two wickets in the previous ODI series against New Zealand.

He finished the three-match ODI series with Zimbabwe earlier this month as the highest wicket-taker with eight wickets, an economy rate of 3.16, and best figures of five for 33. “Just when everyone was wondering how he would perform in the one-day format, he is demonstrating his big-hitting prowess,” Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.

Cameron Green could be used in the powerplay by IPL teams: Ashwin

“He’s hitting them hard. He’s going for the sweep against the spinners. He also has the long hits. “He is also a tall fast bowler,” Ashwin added, suggesting that IPL teams might consider using the 23-year-old for the powerplay. Green has only played one T20I so far, against Pakistan in April, where he scored 2 runs and bowled two for 16 in three overs.

“Some teams (in the IPL) might think of using him in the powerplay and might go after him in this year’s auctions unless and until he pulls out,” the 35-year-old bowler said. “I am sure some team will break the bank for him in this year’s auctions.” Green made his ODI and Test debuts in December 2020, and has since appeared in 14 Tests and 12 ODIs.

Green has scored 270 runs at an average of 54 and taken 11 wickets in ODIs, and 723 runs at an average of 36.15 and 16 wickets in Tests. He will be back in action on September 20 for a three-match T20I series in India.
