Navjot Singh Sidhu gives his take on Sanju Samson’s controversial dismissal against DC

Navjot Singh Sidhu gives his take on Sanju Samson’s controversial dismissal against DC. “The decision that changed the game was the dismissal of Sanju Samson. There may be differences of opinion, but look at the side-on perspective,” Sidhu stated.

The recent meeting between the Delhi Capitals and the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL (Indian Premier League) 2024 sparked controversy. On Tuesday, May 7, both teams faced off in Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium in the tournament’s 56th encounter.

After DC scored 221 runs in the first innings, RR appeared to be on track for a massive win during the run chase, with skipper Sanju Samson putting in an outstanding performance. Samson, who had scored 86 runs in 46 deliveries, was hoping to help his team finish the game.

However, as Samson played a lofted ball towards long off, Shai Hope made a wonderful catch at the boundary line, but many people believed that Hope’s feet touched the rope, implying that it was a six. However, after consulting with the third umpire, Samson was eventually dismissed, which did not sit well with the RR camp.

Former Indian cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu also spoke about the incident. The former Indian batsman maintained that Hope’s feet brushed the boundary rope and Samson was not out.

“The decision that changed the game was the dismissal of Sanju Samson. There may be conflicts of opinion, but from the side-on angle, it brushes the boundary twice. It was quite evident. Sidhu told Star Sports, “Either you don’t use technology, or if you do and the technology makes a mistake, it’s like there’s a fly in the milk, and someone asks you to drink it.”

That changed the game: Sidhu

Sidhu also used the example of RCB batter Virat Kohli’s demise against KKR, in which the top batsman was dismissed on what appeared to be a no-ball. He did say that no one is to blame, which is part of the game, but Samson’s departure did alter the course of the conflict.

“That’s why I kept repeating it about Kohli (after his dismissal against KKR sparked discussion about a possible no-ball). Whatever the rule, you can see it with your naked eye; some evidence is too compelling not to trust. It’s like finding a trout in a glass of milk. The umpire did not do anything on purpose, and no one is responsible. It is part of the game. “That changed the game,” Sidhu explained.
