Sam Curran devastated to know that he would not be able to compete in the IPL 2022.
Sam Curran, a young English all-rounder, regrets not playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2022. The 23-year-old, who has played well for the Chennai Super Kings in recent seasons, will miss the current edition due to fitness issues. During the second leg of the IPL 2021 in October, the southpaw suffered a stress fracture in his lower back.
As a result, he has been ruled out of the T20 World Cup 2021 and the Ashes 2021-22. While he was expected to return in the IPL 2022, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) medical staff advised him not to register for the auction. Curran is disappointed that he will miss the IPL, which is one of the most prominent T20 competitions in the world.

He did, however, admit that his decision not to participate in the auction was a wise one. “I’m disappointed that I won’t be able to attend. It’s frustrating to watch from home. I wanted to go [to the auction], but in the end, I didn’t, which was probably the best decision. “In retrospect, the IPL probably came a little too soon,” Curran told ESPNcricinfo.
The England all-rounder went on to say that he could have competed but wanted to avoid any risk of injury. “I could have rolled the dice and said, ‘Let’s go.'” I’m back in the nets now, so if you do the math, I could have been bowling out there. But I’m still quite young, so I didn’t want to overdo it with the match intensity and large crowds out there, risking another injury by returning too soon,” he added.
The youngster also stated that he is determined to return to the IPL because the tournament teaches him a lot about T20 cricket. “I would definitely return [to the IPL] at some point because you learn so much about your T20 game there: it’s a tournament where you live and breathe cricket.” “You go down for breakfast every day and you’re sitting with superstars, chatting about the game,” he added.
