The next men’s T20 World Cup will use a new format; see details. In a new structure for the 2024 T20 World Cup. The 20 participating nations will be split into four groups of five teams each. With the first round being follow by a Super Eight stage.

With a new structure, the 2024 T20 World Cup will feature four groups of five teams each. The first round being followed by a Super Eight round. The Super 12 followed the first round in the 2021 and 2022 editions, however in the next competition. The best two teams from each of the four groups will advance to the Super Eight phase. Where they will be further separated into two groups of four each.

The top two teams in each of the two Super Eights groups will then advance to the semifinals. Which will be followed by the championship match.

In the next event, which will be held in the West Indies and the United States. As many as 12 teams have already confirmed their participation.

The West Indies and the United States occupy the top two positions as hosts in the next World Cup.

In addition to the defending champions England and the runners-up Pakistan, the top eight teams from the recently concluded T20 World Cup in Australia (the top four teams in each Super 12 group) have already secured their spots for the 2024 competition. Afghanistan and Bangladesh, the next-best teams on the ICC men’s T20I Rankings, have also done the same.

According to a press release from the ICC, regional play will determine the final eight spots for the tournament in 2024.

“While South Africa claimed 2024 qualification by virtue of their top eight finish, Zimbabwe were unable to capitalise on their strong start to the campaign, finishing last in the Super 12 group to be sent back to regional qualification,”

In the release, the ICC stated.

Africa, Asia, and Europe will each have two qualification berths, while the Americas and East-Asia Pacific will each have one.

In the previous two T20 World Cups, the opening round included two groups of four teams comprised of countries who qualified for the event and teams that finished ninth to 12th in the previous tournament.

The top two teams from each group in the first round then joined the remaining eight teams that had previously qualified for the Super 12 round.
