Despite being injured, Shaheen Afridi travels with the Pakistan squad. Pakistan’s first Asia Cup match is against India on Sunday, August 28.

Pakistan dealt a major setback when their best pacer, Shaheen Afridi. Ruled out of the upcoming Asia Cup 2022. The team will enter the tournament without their lethal pacer. The youngster travel with the squad to the UAE, where the event is set to begin on August 27.

The 22-year-old sustain a knee injury and rule out. Even so, he was seen with the squad not only in the UAE for the upcoming Asia Cup, but also in the team’s recently conclude series against the Netherlands. According to reports, captain Babar Azam made the decision and wanted Afridi to stay with the squad.

“Babar desired that he remain with the team. Management wishes to closely monitor his injury rehabilitation. “He will be staying in Dubai with the team,” a PCB spokesperson confirm to Pakistani media.

Shaheen Afridi is expect to return for the tri-series in October.

Afridi was receiving treatment when doctors advise him to rest for four to six weeks. effectively ruling him out of the Asia Cup T20Is. Afridi instrumental in Pakistan’s stunning win over India in the Twenty20 World Cup 2021, which also held in the UAE. He’ll play in the T20I tri-series in New Zealand in October before heading to Australia for the T20 World Cup in 2022.

“I have spoken with Shaheen, and he is understandably upset by the news,” Dr. Najeebullah Soomro quoted as saying in the PCB release.

Pakistan’s first game will be against archrival India on August 28, when the two teams square off. India would like to bounce back from last year’s heartbreaking defeat, while Pakistan would like to put up a similar, dominating performance. While Afridi’s injury that hampered the Men in Green, India also suffer a setback when senior pacer Jasprit Bumrah injure and eventually rule out.
