Mondli Khumalo, South African cricketer, has out from a coma after being attacked in a UK pub. Khumalo has a contract with KwaZulu Natal Inland and represented South Africa in the 2020 Under-19 World Cup.

Mondli Khumalo, was assaulted outside a pub in Bridgwater on May 29. Out of a coma and making “great progress.” Khumalo is a Somerset cricketer who plays for North Petherton Cricket Club. He play for South Africa in the Under-19 World Cup in 2020 and also has a contract with KwaZulu Natal Inland.

The 20-year-old is a North Petherton international professional. He’s out celebrating a team victory when he was attack outside the Dragon Rise Pub in Bridgwater early in the morning. Khumalo hit in the head and require three operations, including one to remove a blood clot from his brain. Lloyd Irish, a teammate from North Petherton, report that he’s taken out of a coma and doing “great.”

“Mondli Khumalo was doing well yesterday, and they brought him out of the coma.”

“He’s shown a lot of courage,” Irish said. “He is requesting his mother, watching some of the England vs. New Zealand Test, and even asking when his next game is!” We’ve made great strides in the last 24 hours. It’s been an emotional rollercoaster, but we appear to be on the right track now.”

Meanwhile, Avon and Somerset police arrested a 27-year-old man involved in the incident on suspicion of assaulting Khumalo. The Superintendent stated that thel keep his family in SA informed of his condition and the investigation into the incident.

“We’re taking steps to ensure Mondli’s family in South Africa is kept fully informed of his condition. The progress of our investigation,” Superintendent Richard Turner said.

“We’ve conducted house-to-house inquiries and are continuing to review CCTV footage from around the area to ensure we gather all available evidence.” We know there were a lot of people in the area at the time, and we’d like to hear from any eyewitnesses, especially if anyone has mobile phone footage of any part of this incident,” he added.
