The auction for the 16th season of the Indian Premier League completed well on Friday evening in Kochi, with all 10 teams assembling a solid roster. The English players that received large contracts from several organizations were the auction’s highlights. Sunrisers Hyderabad, Punjab Kings, and Chennai Super Kings signed Harry Brook, Sam Curran, and Ben Stokes for large money, respectively.
At the auction, the World Cup-winning players drew numerous franchises, resulting in an incredible bidding battle. Sam Curran was the player that received the most money not just in this year’s auction, but in the history of the IPL. The all-rounder, who shone in the T20 World Cup, was signed by PBKS for a record-breaking INR 18.50 crore.
The 24-year-old, who played for Chennai Super Kings in the 2020 and 2021 editions, began his IPL career in 2019 with the Punjab-based team. “Absolutely, he played his first IPL match for Punjab. He then performed the Lungi dance and is now required to do the Bhangra in Punjab with Shikhar on his side! Sam Curran tweeted that he is returning to where he began his IPL career. It will be a challenge, but I believe he is a match-winner, and we’ll have to watch how the Punjab Kings handle him,” Raina told JioCinema.

Punjab Kings have never won an IPL championship. They only made it to the playoffs twice in the 15 editions of the cash-rich event, reaching the finals once in 2014. With the addition of Sam Curran to their squad, they now have a stronger bowling lineup as well as a stronger middle-order batting combination.
“They have Rabada, Arshdeep Singh, Harpreet Brar, and Rahul Chahar – they have a decent bowling line-up but Sam Curran coming into the team will be a nice addition to the group. The Punjab Kings needed a good change, and I believe Sam Curran’s addition to the squad has enhanced their chances of making the playoffs.”
