Shubman Gill Attempts Scoop, Gets Dismissed Against West Indies

Shubman Gill Attempts Scoop, Gets Dismissed Against West Indies. Shubman Gill scored 43 as India defeated the West Indies by two wickets to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the three-match ODIs.

On Sunday, India won the second One-Day International (ODI) against the West Indies. Chasing down a 312-run target in 49.4 overs. The victory gave the Shikhar Dhawan-led side an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. The visitors were reduced to 205 for five in 38.4 overs, but Axar Patel (64*, 35 balls) resurrected India’s chase with his six-hitting prowess to see them home with two balls to spare. Moreover, Shreyas Iyer and Sanju Samson both hit half-centuries. Shubman Gill looked set for a fifty-plus score as well. But he got out to Kyle Mayers in bizarre fashion while on 43.

Gill attempted to scoop the ball behind the wicketkeeper in Mayers’ 16th over, as Sri Lanka’s Tillakaratne Dilshan once did. The youngster failed miserably, as the ball took the bottom of the bat, rose, and landed directly into Mayers’ hands.

Following West Indies’ decision to bat, Shai Hope produced a masterclass 135-ball 117. While skipper Nicholas Pooran demonstrated his big-hitting prowess with six maximums and one four during his 74 off 77 balls as West Indies posted an impressive 311 for six.

In response, Gill (43) looked in good form, hitting five boundaries in his 49-ball innings to give India a good start, but captain Dhawan (13) struggled at the other end. Dhawan was the first to go, with Mayers catching him at third man off the bowling of Romario Shepherd.

Mayers then took two quick wickets, first dismissing a well-set Gill and then dismissing Suryakumar Yadav (9), who once again dragged one to his stumps. With a 99-run partnership off 94 balls, Iyer and Samson attempted to take the chase deep. But once both were gone, India still needed 105 runs from 11 overs.
