Before the game against the Gujarat Titans, Chennai Super Kings head coach Stephen Fleming addressed the ongoing controversy surrounding Ambati Rayudu’s deleted tweet. Rayudu announce on Twitter that the current season would be his final in the IPL and thank CSK and MI for having him on their teams for so many years. The tweet sparked outrage, but CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan stepped in an hour later to clarify that he would not retire and would continue to play for the franchise.
As a result, Rayudu’s tweet also deleted, which cause concern among CSK fans. Rayudu, who picked back in the mega auction by CSK, has a decent season with the bat despite mostly playing in the middle order and not getting enough balls. Rayudu scored 271 runs in 12 games at an average of 27.10, but his strike rate was quite impressive.

Following Rayudu’s tweet, Fleming addressed the ongoing situation in the CSK camp, stating that it was more of a storm in a cup than disappointment. He added that Rayudu is fine now and that the squad is not affected by the ongoing controversies surrounding Rayudu. The 36-year-old omitted from the playing XI against Gujarat Titans, which CSK lost by seven wickets.
“It wasn’t disappointing; to be honest, it was probably a bit of a storm in a teacup.” But I believe he was fine. It hasn’t changed anything in the camp, but it’s a non-story,” Fleming said during a virtual post-match press conference in response to an NDTV question.
With only four wins in 13 games this season, Chennai Super Kings are out of contention for a spot in the IPL 2022 playoffs.
