What Varun Chakravarthy told by India selectors is revealed by Abhishek Nayar. Chakravarthy was the highest wicket-taker for KKR in the IPL 2024 and was instrumental in the team’s title victory.

Abhishek Nayar, the assistant coach of the Kolkata Knight Riders, came forth following the IPL title win to discuss what the India selectors informed ace spinner Varun Chakravarthy when he was selected for the Indian team.

Nayar claimed that Chakravarthy instruct to improve his batting and fielding if he wanted to stay on the Indian team. The top spinner played for the Men in Blue in the T20 World Cup 2021, bowling 11 overs in three games and taking no wickets.

India eliminated from the T20 World Cup 2021 at the group stage. Varun Chakravarthy yet to be select for India again, despite his strong performance in the IPL.

It is worth mentioning that Chakravarthy has taken 41 wickets since the IPL 2023, the most by any bowler since then. In the IPL 2024, the star spinner was KKR’s leading wicket-taker and was critical to the team’s title victory.

“Every year, Varun Chakravarthy competes in the Vijay Hazare Trophy everywhere, but I recall selectors telling him, ‘The more you work on your batting, the more likely you are to make the cut; the better your fielding, the more likely you are to make the cut.'” That was the way of thinking. Nayar stated on The Ranveer Show Podcast, “So he scored a few runs in the Vijay Hazare this time and sent me a video [saying,] ‘I hit two sixes, scored 40 runs.”

Furthermore, Nayar discussed the different ambitious Indian players who must eventually adjust their thinking and specialize in every sector if they want to reach the national team. He also remarked that a player with only one specialisation cannot thrive in the Indian national team.

“So players start thinking like that because they know it’s require. He also improve his fielding. So there are things that players work on because they understand that you have to do all three things; you can’t survive on just one,” Nayar said.
