New York beefs up security ahead of India vs Pakistan tie. India and Pakistan are poise to clash in New York on June 9.

Security is being ramped up to guarantee public safety following reports of a threat to the high-voltage India versus Pakistan match at the T20 World Cup 2024 in New York. However, the governor’s office state that “there is no credible public safety threat at this time.”

The highly anticipated match between India and Pakistan will take place on June 9 at Eisenhower Park Stadium. This arena is approximately 25 miles east of Manhattan and will hold eight matches from June 3 to June 12.

Kathy Hochul, the governor of the state of New York. Stated that her office has been in contact with law enforcement officials for several months to ensure that the matches be held without incident.

“I have also given the go-ahead for the New York State Police to put in place more stringent security measures. Like increase law enforcement visibility, better surveillance, and thorough screening protocols. My main duty is to ensure public safety. We commit to making the Cricket World Cup enjoyable and safe.” She said.

ESPNcricinfo reports that authorities have not yet found any solid evidence to support the claimed threat

However, the ICC declared that “robust” security would be in place for the entire flagship event, including at the venue in New York.

“The safety and security of everyone attending the event is our first priority, and we have a comprehensive and rigorous security strategy in place. We collaborate closely with authorities in our host nations and constantly monitor and review the global landscape to ensure that proper procedures are in place to mitigate any risks identified for our event,” an ICC official stated.

Earlier this month, the ICC and Cricket West Indies, who are the co-hosts of the upcoming World Cup alongside the United States, guarantee that they are taking all measure possible to secure the safety of the players and supporters.

The Men in Blue have four games in New York: on June 5, they play Canada; on June 12, they play the much-awaited match against Pakistan; and on June 5, they play the USA. On June 1, they are schedule to play a warm-up match against Bangladesh. After being given a brief break, the legendary Virat Kohli has yet to join the Indian team. The other players have gathered in the US and begun preparing for the 20-team tournament.
