Sunil Gavaskar encourages Rishabh Pant after horrific outing against SRH

Sunil Gavaskar encourages Rishabh Pant after horrific outing against SRH. “There are a lot of games, so keep smiling,” Gavaskar said.

Sunrisers Hyderabad outclassed the Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Saturday. DC invited SRH to bat first after winning the toss. SRH scored a massive 266 runs on the board. Chasing the target, DC batters were unable to show resilience and fell victim to some tight lines and lengths from the Hyderabad bowlers. DC ended up with 199 runs.

Rishabh Pant, the DC captain, was dejected after the game. His emotions were palpable as he delivered the post-match presentation. Sensing the tension in the air, Sunil Gavaskar, a former India cricketer and legend, jumped in to cheer up Pant. Gavaskar stated that he did not want the wicketkeeper-batsman to be upset over the loss. He also stated that the tournament is lengthy, and he can always make a comeback.

“I never want your head to be down; there are many games, so keep a smile on your face at all times,” said Gavaskar. Pant replied, “I will do my best, sir.”

“The only thought behind the toss was the dew that did not arrive. If we limited them to 220-230, we would still have a chance. Powerplay made the difference. They scored between 120 and 130 points, and we were just catching up throughout the match. “That was the huge difference,” Pant said after the match.

We had a pretty good chance with 220-230 to chase: Pant

DC were on point while chasing the daunting target. Prithvi Shaw started with four consecutive boundaries, and Jake Fraser McGurk scored the fastest fifty of the Indian Premier League 2024. At one point, DC’s current run rate exceeded the required run rate. However, after McGurk’s departure, things began to fall apart for Delhi.

“It stopped more in the second inning than we expected. When you have a big score to defend, it boosts the bowlers’ confidence. We had a decent chance with 220-230 to chase. Hopefully, we’ll come back with a clearer mindset. Jake Fraser-McGurk is batting brilliantly and contributing nicely for us. That is what you want. More about sticking together as a team during the toughest times. It’s a difficult pill to swallow, but we need to look at areas for improvement and come back for the next game,” Pant added.
