Adam Zampa shares reasons behind skipping IPL 2024

Adam Zampa shares reasons behind skipping IPL 2024. Adam Zampa was supposed to play for the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2024. He pull out before the tournament for “personal reasons.”

Adam Zampa, an Australian leg spinner, was retained by the Rajasthan Royals ahead of last year’s auction for INR 1.5 crore. However, the experienced campaigner withdrew before the tournament, citing ‘personal reasons’. He recently revealed the reasons behind his tough decision.

The Australian cricketer stated that he was willing to play in the lucrative league this year. However, he was exhausted from the amount of cricket he had played since last year, and with the T20 World Cup set to take place in June, he wanted to rest his mind and body.

“There are various reasons why the IPL did not appeal to me this year. I believe the most important was that it was a World Cup year, and I was utterly exhausted from 2023. I played the entire IPL last year. Obviously, the World Cup lasted three months in India as well,” Zampa told the Willow Talk Podcast.

“So I had the best intentions of participating in the IPL again this year. But when it came down to it, I felt like I couldn’t really give the Rajasthan Royals the best version of myself, and looking ahead to the World Cup is definitely more important to me,” he said.

Forming an effective triumvirate with experienced Indian spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravichandran Ashwin. The Shellharbour native admitted that he would have had to fight for his place in the playing XI, which he considered while skipping the IPL.

“It came down to my decision being I probably need to put my body and my mental health first. “Then you throw a lot of other things into the equation as well, like the fact that I’ve got a young family. It’s not easy to spend nine weeks in India in my situation where I’m fighting for my spot in the team as well. It’s not like I can say to myself, ‘well, that’s alright I’ve got 14 games to prepare for a World Cup’. I don’t know whether or not that’s actually going to be two games or four games or six games. So I kind of worked out that maybe just to rest, putting my family first, putting my body first, was better for me,” Zampa said.

“It’s not an easy decision because you’re always thinking, ‘What will people say if I pull out of the IPL? What happens the next time you want to attend the IPL? Do they kind of paint you with that brush? But I wasn’t too concerned because I knew I’d made the right decision,” he said.

Rajasthan has been doing well in the early stages of IPL 2024. They won four straight games before losing their first game of the season on Wednesday, April 10, against the Gujarat Titans. The Sanju Samson-led team leads the points table with eight points from five matches.
