Wahab Riaz rejects the animosity between Babar Azam and Shaheen Shah Afridi. Riaz has also advised journalists to double-check their facts before publishing such stories.

Babar Azam is set to take over as Pakistan’s captain for the upcoming five-match T20I series against New Zealand, succeeding Shaheen Afridi, who had a brief stint as captain. Shaheen assumed the role after Babar resigned following Pakistan’s elimination from the 2023 ODI World Cup. However, after a disappointing 1-4 loss in New Zealand and a lacklustre performance in the PSL 2024. Shaheen relieve of his duties, and Babar reinstated as captain.

Speculation erupted about Babar and Shaheen’s connection, spurred by the latter’s cryptic social media post expressing his dissatisfaction with the manner of his departure. Wahab Riaz, Pakistan’s selector and senior team manager, responded to these rumors. Emphasizing that the reality differs from what the media and social media users have hypothesized.

He emphasised that the atmosphere during their Army training extremely positive and advise the media to confirm the truth before reporting it. “When we arrived, we found the most welcoming atmosphere we could have imagined. The boys were united. After training and iftar, they’d go to the snooker room or watch TV together. “It was a really good atmosphere,” Riaz said.
