Pakistan lost 1-4 against NZ under Shaheen Afridi’s captaincy

Following his resignation, the board chose Shan Masood as their new Test captain. While fast bowler Shaheen Afridi assumed leadership of the T20Is. However, Afridi did not have a remarkable performance in his maiden series as captain, as Pakistan lost 1-4 to New Zealand in the five-match series in January 2024.

Following the series, Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi was chosen as the new chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board in February, succeeding interim leader Zaka Ashraf, who stepped down in January. Meanwhile, Babar’s re-appointment as captain has irked famous Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi, who believes Mohammad Rizwan is a better choice. According to sources, Shaheen is also unhappy with the PCB’s decision. Which prompted the board to convene an emergency meeting with the speedster.
