England batter Harry Brook has confirmed that he will not take part in the upcoming IPL 2024 on Wednesday, March 13. The 25-year-old acquire by the Delhi Capitals (DC) for INR 4 crore in a mini auction held in Dubai in December 2023. Brook shared the news with his fans on social media, saying hes thrilled to be picked up by DC in the auction and was looking forward to the upcoming season.

Harry Brook revealed that his family is mourning the loss of his grandmother, Pauline, who died in February.

Brook also stated that she was his pillar of strength, and her death has left his entire family mentally ill. As a result, the cricketer has chosen to stay with his family during these trying times. Brook previously pulled out of the recently concluded five-match Test series against India for personal reasons.

“I can confirm that I have taken the difficult decision not to participate in the upcoming IPL. ” I was overjoyed to have been chosen by the Delhi Capitals and looked forward to working with everyone. I am aware that many people will question why. “So I wanted to share this,” Brook wrote in an Instagram post.

“I lost my grandmother last month – she was a rock to me and I spent a large portion of my childhood in her home; my attitude to life and love of cricket were shaped by her and my late grandfather. Now that she has passed, my family and I are grieving, and I need to be around them,” he added.

“Over the last few years, I’ve learned to prioritise my mental health and that of my family; nothing is more important to me than my family.” So, while this may surprise some, I am confident that it is the right decision for me. “I’m young and hope to have many, many more years of cricket to enjoy,” he added.

His only memorable performance of the season came against the Kolkata Knight Riders in match 19, when he scored a brilliant 100* off 55 balls, including 12 fours and three sixes. Brook was named Player of the Match after putting on a spectacular performance. Meanwhile, his absence in the upcoming season will cause concern for the Delhi Capitals, who will be looking for a suitable replacement for the swashbuckling batter.
