Gujarat Giants overpower UP Warriorz to record the needed win. The Gujarat Giants defeated the UP Warriorz by eight runs.

On Monday, March 11, Game 18 of the ongoing Women’s Premier League (WPL 2024) pitted the Gujarat Giants women against the UP Warriorz women at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium. The match began with the Gujarat Giants batting first.

Laura Wolvaardt and Beth Mooney opened the innings with outstanding performances, scoring 43 and 74* runs, respectively. Furthermore, Ashleigh Gardner contributed 15 runs to Gujarat’s 152-run first innings score.

Deepti Sharma’s knock in vain as UP Warriorz stumble

UP Warriorz’s pursuit of the target began disastrously, with openers Alyssa Healy and Kiran Navgire scoring only four and zero runs, respectively. Chamari Athapaththu left for a duck as well. Warriorz found themselves in trouble, but Deepti Sharma’s tenacious knock gave the team hope. Moreover, Deepti scored 88* runs in 60 deliveries and performed admirably.

However, the star all-rounder was unable to find an appropriate batting partner to perform with. Grace Harris left after scoring one run, Shweta Sehrawat added eight runs, and Poonam Khemnar scored 36* runs in the same number of deliveries.

In the end, the UP Warriorz fell just short of the target, with the Gujarat Giants women winning by eight runs. Gujarat’s Shabnam MD took the most wickets in the second innings, with three. Kathryn Bryce and Ashleigh Gardner each claimed one wicket. Despite the victory, the Giants remain fifth in the WPL 2024 standings, with two wins in seven matches, while the UP Warriorz are fourth, with three wins in eight.
