Angelo Mathews’s unfortunate timed-out dismissal

Returning to the ODI World Cup 2023, tensions between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh rose during the mega event when Angelo Mathews became the first cricketer in history to be timed out. That incident sparked a significant controversy. Bangladesh captain Shakib al Hasan standing firm on his appeal, resulting in heated exchanges between the teams. Shoriful’s celebration appeared to be a direct jab at Mathews, reigniting the heated exchange of words and emotions between the two teams.

Returning to the ongoing match, Sri Lanka was asked to bat first after Bangladeshi captain Najmul Hossain Shanto won the toss and decided to bowl. Sri Lanka had a shaky start, with opener Avishka dismissed cheap. The rest of the batters demonstrated their batting prowess, propelling Sri Lanka to a significant score.

Sadeera Samarawickrama and wicketkeeper-batter Kusal Mendis made notable contributions, scoring 61 and 59, respectively. Captain Charith Asalanka’s brilliant 21-ball 44, which included six huge sixes, helped Sri Lanka reach 206 for three in their allotted 20 overs.

Shoriful Islam, Taskin Ahmed, and Rishad Hossain took one wicket each for Bangladesh. They struggle to keep the run flow under control, particularly near the end of Sri Lanka’s batting innings.
