The BCCI intends to start the IPL (Indian Premier League) 2024 on Friday, March 22. Arun Dhamal, head of the IPL governing council, recently disclose that the cash-rich league’s schedule will be present in two parts.

The BCCI will initially announce the schedule for the first two weeks of the tournament. The slots for the remaining games will be determined once the general election schedule for 2024 is released. Dhamal went on to say that the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai is the front-runner to host the T20 extravaganza’s 17th season opener.

The competition is schedule to begin March 22 in Chennai. We are monitoring the situation, and now that the dates for the general elections have been release. We will be able to prepare the second half of the tournament properly. ” Dhumal told Sportstar.

Notably, the IPL 2023 began on Friday with the Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans facing off in the first match, while the remaining eight teams competed in double headers throughout the weekend.

The BCCI is considering a similar strategy this time, with the final of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 taking place on Sunday, March 17, leaving the following weekend free to host the first five games of the IPL 2024.

Earlier, there were widespread reports that the event will be moved outside of India in light of the general elections. However, Dhamal confirmed that the full competition would take place in India. The tournament will feature 74 matches, including four play-offs.

IPL 2024 also entirely held in India despite general elections
