Tom Moody talks of Gambhir’s role in KKR retentions

Tom Moody talks of Gambhir’s role in KKR retentions. “This will be a pivotal year for both Russell and Narine.” “They’ve both been phenomenal cricketers for KKR and are truly a part of their history,” said Tom Moody.

The various franchises confirmed their retentions ahead of the 17th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) auctions. Kolkata Knight Riders, the two-time champions, too underwent big changes.

Kolkata kept the likes of Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, and many more players ahead of the new season, with former player Gautam Gambhir joining the side as the manager.

Following the announcement of the retentions, former Australian cricketer Tom Moody stated that Gambhir was important in the franchise keeping Russell and Narine ahead of the season. Russell and Narine have both played in the IPL under Gambhir’s guidance, and their retention might aid the two-time champions.

“This will be a pivotal year for both Russell and Narine.” They have both been fantastic cricketers for KKR and are truly a part of their history. Gambhir, in my opinion, has been crucial in keeping Russell and Narine. Gambhir understands them; He played with them, he’s capture them, and he’ll be able to get the most out of them,” ESPNcricinfo’s Moody said.

Russell and Narine have both been key players for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL throughout the years. While Russell has the X-factor with the bat, Narine is effective with both the bat and the ball.

Russell’s bowling pretty limited as well: Moody

Furthermore, Tom Moody stated that Andre Russell’s performance will be determine by his ability to keep his fitness rather than his talents. Russell had a lot of injuries in the IPL 2023, and if he can avoid them, he might be a key player for KKR.

“I believe the outcome will be different in 2024 in terms of what Russell brings to the table.” My main hesitation is not one of talent. It’s whether he can physically keep together because we’ve seen him break down on a handful of times in recent years, which has been pretty worrisome. His bowling has also been limited, and they haven’t got access to his entire quota of overs,” Moody explained.
