The Dasun Shanaka-led side should not be underestimated in the World Cup, according to former cricketer Chaminda Vaas.
He expects the Lankan Lions to perform admirably and to put up a fight against every opponent in the competition. Notably, when the World Cup was last held in India, Sri Lanka hosted the finals, and Vaas anticipates a similar outcome this time around. He added that Wanindu Hasaranga, who has been fantastic in recent years, will be vital for the team. That players like Matheesa Pathirana and Maheesh Theekshana, who have played in the IPL, will also be valuable.
“We have a talented team with one of the best leg spinners in the world in Wanindu Hasranga. ” There are mystery bowlers who add variation to the assault. As well as Matheesha Pathirana, who has been doing quite well in the IPL.
” The most important thing is we have to play as a team you know when it comes to a big tournament. Playing the right combination and playing smart cricket is most important and if we can do that, I’m pretty sure we can fight and give a fight to any team,” Vaas told News18 in an exclusive interview.
Meanwhile, on October 7, Sri Lanka will kick off their World Cup campaign against South Africa at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Prior to that, the team will compete in the Asia Cup, attempting to defend the crown it won previous year. They will also play two warm-up games in India before the competition.
