The BCB is considering Shakib Al Hasan availability for ODI captaincy. Tamim Iqbal has resigned as ODI captain due to a back injury.
After a slew of drama in the Bangla Tigers’ setup, including prominent players’ retirement and a captaincy saga. The BCB is currently debating how to move the team ahead after Tamim Iqbal rule out of the Asia Cup 2023 due to a back ailment. As a result, he chose to resign as captain. Notably, the top opener had previously not only relinquish the captaincy but also astonish the cricket world by announcing his retirement from the game. However, following Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s intervention, the batter returned to the game within a day.
Following Iqbal’s departure, Najmul Hassan, has stated that the most experience veteran player. Shakib Al Hasan, will be their go-to guy. Furthermore, they want to make sure that the best all-rounder is available to serve the country before asking him to take on the job of Captain. The Asia Cup and ODI World Cup set to begin on October 5. Notably, the board wishes to make him captain for at least two years, stressing the high degree of pressure that the team would face and the need for an experienced campaigner to cope with it effectively.

Furthermore, when it comes to bringing Shakib Al Hasan to the forefront. Najmul Hassan feels that they must first determine whether the top player would be available for the next two years with Bangladesh. He also mentioned wicketkeeper Litton Das, who recently led the Bangladesh Tigers against Afghanistan at home. Shakib added that the management is also interested in seeing if Das can maintain consistency in his batting role when comparing the pressure of a bilateral series to the ultimate showdown in the shape of the ODI cricket World Cup.
“Shakib is the obvious captaincy choice, but can you guarantee he’ll play for the next two years?” We don’t know, thus we need to know his strategy and consult with the board. “I think the simplest choice is Shakib, and there is no problem with that,” the BCB president added.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh’s head coach, Chandika Hathurusingha, is set to begin preparations for the Asia Cup 2023 upon his arrival on August 8. Notably, the intercontinental competition will begin on August 30 in Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
