‘He is a clever cricketer, knows his limitations’ – Sanjay Manjrekar explains why MS Dhoni didn’t endorse himself in the match-up with the Rajasthan Royals

Chennai Super Kings are fourth in the Indian Premier League 2023 point standings after winning five of their first eight games. CSK’s success has been ascribed mostly to their all-star batting lineup. Which includes Devon Conway, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shivam Dube, and Ajinkya Rahane. This season, all of these players have been in excellent form.

The MS Dhoni factor, on the other hand, encourages CSK to do well each season. With the anticipation that this is Dhoni’s final season, he is seen at his best. Collecting runs at a strike rate of 196.77 and punishing dismissals from behind the wickets. The ‘Captain Cool’ did not bat in CSK’s previous encounter against Rajasthan Royals, despite the fact that his team desperately needed a ferocious striker of the ball with the run rate climbing.

As a result, CSK fell short of the 203-run mark and lost by 32 runs. While many expected Dhoni to come out to bat and get his team out of trouble. Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar said Dhoni is a wise man who understands his limitations.

“MS Dhoni is a clever cricketer. He knows his limitations. We are seeing a new avatar of him this season. Earlier he used to manage the team, this year, he’s also managing himself,”

Shivam Dube has been at his ruthless best this season, scoring 236 runs in seven innings (before CSK against PBKS) at an average of 33.71 and a strike rate of 157.33. Dube has blasted 10 fours and 19 sixes thus far in the competition, demonstrating his incredible hitting ability. Former India cricketer Ravi Shastri praised Shivam Dube for his merciless power-hitting this season, saying that the batter can knock sixes only by standing in his spot, making him dangerous.

Shivam Dube is tall cricketer and can easily hit sixes: Ravi Shastri

“Shivam Dube has range and power. He’s tall and he can easily hit sixes just by standing in his place, which makes him a dangerous batter. He’s been given the license from the skipper to just go out there and explode,”

The top two bowlers have been Tushar Deshpande (14 wickets) and Ravindra Jadeja (11 wickets), with a few other bowlers sometimes contributing a wicket. If MS Dhoni decides to depart after this season, the Chennai Super Kings will want to send him off with their fifth title. They are in excellent form this year.
