‘We don’t mess with things that are going well’: Stephen Fleming, the head coach of CSK, provides his simple opinion on changing the batting order.

‘We don’t mess with things that are going well’: Stephen Fleming, the head coach of CSK, provides his simple opinion on changing the batting order. RR defeated CSK in Jaipur for the third time this IPL 2023 season.

Stephen Fleming, head coach of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), offered a plain opinion on moving hard-hitters up the batting order. The declarations follow CSK’s defeat over Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 32 runs on April 27 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

For those who are unaware, Rajasthan scored 202 runs in their first innings thanks to Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 77 off 43 balls. Dhruv Jurel’s explosive cameo (34 off 15 balls) and Devdutt Padikkal’s quick 27* off 13 balls further helped the Royals.

Ruturaj Gaikwad responded quickly, scoring 47 runs off just 29 balls. The likes of Devon Conway and Ajinkya Rahane, who were dismissed shortly after him and unable to generate any momentum, were removed for scores of eight and 15 runs, respectively. On that topic, the CSK coach responded directly to a question about whether the think tank should move power hitters up the lineup.

“The set roles are very important. [Ajinkya] Rahane has been great for us at No. 3. We don’t mess with things that are going well. It was just today we came up against a team that took the pace off the ball. We couldn’t get any real momentum in the first six overs,”

Fleming told

“Devon Conway, who is in outstanding form, couldn’t get underway. The rhythm of the innings was slow. When we tried to catch the game up, we made mistakes,”

He added.

Stephen Fleming: Powerplay set the innings up for them

The Royals bowling unit worked hard to keep CSK to only 42 runs during the chase’s powerplay the first 1-6 overs. The head coach, Stephen Fleming, stated that the home team took advantage of its powerplay opportunities, thereby establishing the tone for the game.

“The first six overs, they were outstanding with the bat and the ball as well. That just set the two innings up for them. We could have been better, but part of that is playing away from home – trying to find out the right length to bowl, what sort of swing conditions we are going to get. That’s part of the challenge of playing away,”

He concluded.
