IPL 2023: Harry Brook makes light of the fact that his family left India soon before he hit a beautiful ton against KKR. In Game 19, Brook played a magnificent knock against Kolkata Knight Riders, scoring 100* off 55 balls.

In the current season 16 of the Indian Premier League, England batter Harry Brook finally lived up to his reputation as he produced a spectacular knock of 100* off 55 balls against Kolkata Knight Riders on Friday, April 14 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. As a result of his contribution to Sunrisers Hyderabad’s record-breaking first-inning total of 228/4, Brook became the first centurion of the current season.

The 24 year old was under enormous strain as he had only scored 29 runs in the first three innings and wasn’t able to justify his price tag of INR 13.25 crore. He responded to all of his detractors, though, with a stunning innings while starting for the second time this season.

In his post-game interview with the commentators, Brook made light of the fact that he struggled to score runs while his family was in India but that as soon as they departed, he went on to score a century, leaving the pundits speechless.

“My girlfriend is here but the rest of my family have just left. I was sure that after they leave I would get some runs (laughs). No, honestly, I am sure they’ll all be very happy for me,”

Brook said.

Markram and Abhishek Sharma backed Brook.

Brook approached the crease with an aggressive mindset and continued to hit the bowlers despite his side losing two wickets in the powerplay. His innings comprised three sixes and 12 fours. The partnership resulted in 72 runs for the third wicket off 47 balls thanks in large part to the captain, Aiden Markram, who scored 50 off 26 balls.

In just 33 balls, he and Abhishek Sharma added another 72 runs to their tally, pushing SRH’s total above 220. Despite putting up a valiant effort, Kolkata could only manage to score 205/7 in their allotted 20 overs, thanks to half centuries from Nitish Rana (75 off 41) and Rinku Singh (58* off 31).

By virtue of this victory, SRH, who had already won two of their previous four games, moved up to position seven in the standings.
