The three – identified as Sanjay Arora, resident of Brij Vihar in Ghaziabad, Badal Chawla and Pawan Kumar, both residents of Jhilmil Colony in East Delhi – were running the ‘satta’ racket from a house in Vivek Vihar during the Test match, police said Sunday.
As many as 33 people were arrested by Pimpri Chinchwad police in the latest high profile cricket betting racket. In the latest controversy to rock the cricket world, the people involved were arrested from three different locations. Their crime was taking bets from punters albeit in questionable circumstances. The match in question was the high profile encounter between India and England with ?Police said the accused coming to Pune via trains, flight and by road for cricket betting.
The accused were armed with binoculars and would take advantage of the six second delay between the actual match and the live telecast. Pimpri Chinchwad police commissioner Krishna Prakash had the following to say? “The accused were taking advantage of the six seconds time lag while betting,”.
After getting wind of the illegal activity taking place, three team were formed comprising of senior police inspector Vivek Muglikar of Wakad police station. Three locations were targeted by the police including a high rise building, hillock near Dehuroad and a hotel in Pune city. The first two provided the vantage point that allowed the accused to watch the game using binoculars.

On Monday, 16 May 2022, the Visakhapatnam City Police arrested 8 members for organizing a cricket betting racket. As per the police reports, the show was being run from a house rented by the organizers within the Duvvada Police Station limits. The accused were identified as natives of Bhilai in Chattishgarh who rented a duplex house for Rs 30,000 in Tirumala Nagar.
Acting on credible information regarding the cricket betting racking, the Visakhapatnam City Police raided the house on Monday and seized 20 mobile phones, 2 laptops, some cash, and other electronic devices from the scene. It was said that the betting racket was led by Pradeep. Pretending to be employees of a private firm, the organizers have rented the house and turned it into their base for running the racket.
A multi-level communicator equipment box was found in possession of the accused, which was said to be procured from Delhi, for communication with their clients and punters. The betting rates were based on the rates provided by various online betting sites, informed the police.
The organizers have used online payment apps such as PhonePe and Google Pay for their transactions and were also involved in online trading. Inspector of Duvvada Police Sation headed the team that raided the house where the racket was being organized.
