CSK’s next match is the inaugural match of IPL 2022, against Kolkata Knight Riders on Saturday 26 March at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

There is a new format for the IPL this year, with 10 teams split into two groups. Chennai Super Kings are in Group B along with Sunrisers Hyderabad, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans.

CSK will play twice against Mumbai Indians from group A and these four fellow teams from Group B. Also, they will play one game each against Kolkata Knight Riders, Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals and Lucknow Supergiants.

Among their much-awaited gamed are the ones against Mumbai Indians. Chennai Super Kings will play Mumbai Indians on 21 April at Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium, and their second encounter is on 12 May at the Wankhede Stadium. In a way, both these encounters are in Mumbai. Chennai Super Kings’ next match will be against a new franchise – Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

CSK matches are always highly anticipated, and their consistency makes them one of the most loved franchises. Their games against MI remain among the tougher challenges, while one can expect easier games against teams like SRH, KKR and PBKS.

If we look at the CSK matches from the last three years in IPL – they played 47 matches, and won 27 with a winning percentage of 57.44%. In 2019, they remained second in the points table and reached the final but finished the tournament as runners-up.

In 2020, playing at UAE due to the COVID-19 outbreak in India, CSK mostly remained at the bottom of the points table and ended at seventh place after the league stage.

In the last three years, barring IPL 2020, Chennai Super Kings yielded great results. In 2019 CSK had to settle for the runners-up spot after losing the battle in the nail-biting final against their archrivals Mumbai Indians. It was their second defeat against MI in the knock-out, having lost to them in the first qualifier as well.

Chasing MI’s modest total of 149 runs, CSK fell short by 1 run after MS Dhoni got run-out for just 2 runs. This was the second occasion in 2019 when CSK lost by the margin of 1 run. In their group match against RCB, MS Dhoni played a brilliant knock of unbeaten 84 runs of 48 balls while chasing 162, but still, he could not propel the side past the winning line.

2020 was a different year for CSK as they ended up at seventh place in the points table after losing 8 of their 14 matches. It was the first time they failed to go past the league stage.

Even though they started their campaign well by defeating Mumbai Indians in the inaugural match, they lost 3 back to back matches thereafter and again lost 3 consecutive games mid-tournament.

Their biggest win that year came against  Punjab Kings as they chased down the target of 179 with 10 wickets remaining thanks to Shane Watson and Faf du Plessis’ unbreakable opening stand.

In the 2021 edition of the IPL, which was partially hosted in India and later shifted to UAE, the team bounced back to reach the final for the 9th time and clinched their fourth IPL title, all under MS Dhoni.

In 2021, the skipper MS Dhoni lifted the trophy for CSK for the fourth time as they overwhelmed Kolkata Knight Riders in the final.

CSK had batted first and posted 192 on the board as du Plessis once again played the anchor role with his 86 from 59, while Robin Uthappa and Moin Ali made some quick thirties. On their road to the final, CSK won 9 league matches and outclassed top-ranked Delhi Capitals in their first qualifier encounter.

Ruturaj Gaikwad earned the orange cap for CSK for his 635 runs from 16 games, scoring 1 century and 4 half-centuries, while du Plessis was just two runs behind him in the most-runs table with 6 half-centuries.

Let’s now look at the CSK schedule for IPL 2022, which includes 14 games for CSK, out of which 8 games will be played during the first half of the tournament, which leaves only 6 games later on. The defending champions will play their first match of IPL 2022 against the last year’s runners-up – Kolkata Knight Riders – on Saturday 26 March, at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

Four out of 14 CSK matches will be played at Wankhede Stadium against KKR, PBKS, MI and GT. At DY Patil Stadium, CSK will play four other games against teams like SRH, RCB, MI and DC.

Mumbai’s Brabourne stadium is the third venue where CSK will play 3 games against LSG, PBKS and RR, while the rest 3 matches are scheduled at MCA Stadium, Pune, against SRH, RCB and GT. CSK match schedule shows they will play their first two matches in March, 6 matches in April and the last 6 in May.

CSK’s encounters against Mumbai Indians (21 April and 12 May) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (12 April and 4 May) will remain the highlights of the IPL tournament due to the star players and historic rivalries.

Chennai Super Kings have been most successful against Sunrisers Hyderabad, winning 12 out of 16 encounters with a winning rate of 75%. Their other preferred opponents are Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Punjab Kings (PBKS), Delhi Capitals (DC) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) as against all these opponents they enjoy more than 60% success rate.

Indian Premier League 2021 resumes after a 4-month break due to Covid outbreak in India. The 31st game would see the Chennai Super Kings take on defending champions Mumbai Indians. The Super Kings had done well in India, and they are comfortably placed at the second spot on the points table. Mumbai Indians is in the 4th spot after couple of ordinary performances.

Mumbai Indians have enjoyed a good record against Chennai and have won the last eight out of ten games between the two teams. They had defeated CSK in the earlier league game this season and the side would like to draw inspiration from that win. It will be interesting to see if the Chennai Super Kings are able to undo this poor record and win this game.

MS Dhoni’s side had a good tournament in its earlier leg in India where the side won five out of the seven games. However, they had lost to the Mumbai Indians in their previous game and Dhoni would want to even it out here. With Sam Curran missing, and Faf du Plessis and Dwayne Bravo doubtful for this game, it will be interesting to see how CSK get their balance right.

Rituraj Gaikwad didn’t enjoy great success in India, and he would have to provide the side with a good start batting with Robin Uthappa. The middle order is strong for the side with Moeen Ali in good form and he would look to set up partnerships with Ambati Rayudu and Suresh Raina. The side has a killer lower middle order and runs would be expected in this game from Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja and Shardul Thakur.

The side would have to get early wickets to put the Mumbai’s strong batting on backfoot and the new ball pair of Deepak Chahar and Josh Hazelwood shall have to do the damage. Imran Tahir and Jadeja are an experienced pair, and the side would like them to keep the opposition quiet. Thakur and Ali complete a good bowling attack for the side.

  Top Batsman – Suresh Raina

  Top Bowler – Deepak Chahar

Chennai Super Kings Predicted Playing XI:
MS Dhoni (c & wk), Rituraj Gaikwad, Robin Uthappa, Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu, Moeen Ali, Ravindra Jadeja, Imran Tahir, Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar, Josh Hazelwood

Chennai Super Kings Actual Playing XI:
Dwayne Bravo, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Deepak Chahar, SN Thakur, Ravindra Jadeja, Faf du Plessis, Moeen Ali, Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni, Josh Hazlewood

The defending champions put up a mediocre show in India and Rohit Sharma would like the side to get back its mojo with a strong show here. They have enjoyed a good record against the Chennai Super Kings in the past and Sharma would look to continue that here. A win in this game would take them to the 3rd position on the points table and the Mumbai skipper would be aiming for that.

They have a strong opening pair in Quinton de Kock and Suryakumar Yadav and the pair shall aim to provide a good start. Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan and Kieron Pollard add good firepower to the middle order, and they would look to build good partnerships in this game. The side would also expect fireworks from Krunal Pandya and James Neesham down the order.

Trent Boult and Dhawal Kulkarni didn’t enjoy great run in India and the pair would look to get early breakthroughs for the side in this game. Jasprit Bumrah has enjoyed good form in recent games and shall look to trouble the Super Kings in middle overs with Rahul Chahar. Pollard, Krunal Pandya and Neesham add variety to this attack.

  Top Batsman – Rohit Sharma

  Top Bowler – Jasprit Bumrah

  Mumbai Indians Predicted Playing XI:
Rohit Sharma (c), Quinton de Kock (wk), Suryakumar Yadav, Kieron Pollard, Ishan Kishan, Krunal Pandya, James Neesham, Rahul Chahar, Dhawal Kulkarni, Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult

  Mumbai Indians Actual Playing XI:
Anmolpreet Singh, Adam Milne, Trent Boult, Kieron Pollard, Krunal Pandya, SS Tiwary, Jasprit Bumrah, Rahul Chahar, Ishan Kishan, Quinton de Kock, SA Yadav

Dubai would see clear skies and a warm evening on September 19. The surface is expected to be flat, and batsmen will enjoy batting here with the ball coming onto the bat nicely. A score of 180 runs is a must for the side batting first to put the opponents under pressure in this game.

The Dubai International Cricket Stadium is a large ground, but the flat surface and the fast outfield allows batsmen to score lots of runs on this surface. Fast bowlers need to use variations well at this venue to grab wickets with little assistance from the track. Spinners have done well here in the recent games.

Most teams have in the past preferred to bowl on this surface after winning mi vs csk cricket bettingCSK vs MI Today Match Prediction and Betting Tips, Odds and Live Score 19 September 2021 the toss. The pitch doesn’t change much of its character in the second innings and chasing scores here is easy. Hence, the side winning the toss in this game shall have little hesitation in bowling first here.

Chennai Super Kings had their best night of the tournament in their previous match as they thumped Delhi Capitals in a rather one-sided contest. They were so good in that match that even MS Dhoni called it a perfect game at the post-match presentation ceremony. Despite that performance, Chennai Super Kings are still very far from a playoff spot but they will be keeping their hopes up as it is still a possibility. A win here in this match will certainly help their cause and that is exactly what they will be aiming for.

After their last win, they moved to the eighth spot but with Kolkata Knight Riders registering a massive win over Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings dropped down to ninth position. Given the position they are in at the moment, a win here could push them to the mi vs csk cricket bettingCSK vs MI Today Match Prediction and Betting Tips, Odds and Live Score 19 September 2021 sixth spot, at least in the interim. Along with that, they would hope for some results to fall their way in the next few matches and if that happens, Chennai Super Kings will be back in the race big time.

Chennai Super Kings have found plenty of positives in their last few games. In Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad, they have an opening pair that can take on pacers and seamers alike. They have been so good in the last few matches that the absence of Ravi Jadeja with the bat hasn’t really been felt. On the bowling front too, the likes of Simarjeet Singh and Mukesh Chaudhary have been brilliant. Together they have kept batsmen on their toes in the powerplay and the same would be expected of them in this upcoming match as well.

On paper, Chennai Super Kings have an immaculately balanced side, especially with pitches slowing down and their bowlers doing well. Maheesh Theekshana has been an invaluable addition to their attack and with Moeen Ali beginning to contribute well with the ball, Chennai Super Kings can utilize the conditions well. If anything, they might miss the services of Ravi Jadeja with the ball, especially given that he did pretty well with the ball in his last two outings.

Injuries have really hampered Chennai Super Kings plans in the tournament but they have finally found a settled team. Overall, Chennai Super Kings seem to be having their bases covered in both departments of the game. If they can continue to play to their strengths in this upcoming match as well, they would be an incredibly difficult side to beat especially with the conditions beginning to take a turn.

Just when Mumbai Indians looked like imparting some momentum into their journey, they suffered a massive 52-run defeat at the hands of Kolkata Knight Riders despite some individual heroics. They are already knocked out of the race for the playoffs and this game wouldn’t mean much for them as far as qualification scenarios are concerned. However, they have nothing to lose and would want to win this match, which is against their arch-rivals, to keep their chin and pride up.

As it currently stands on the points table, Mumbai Indians are placed at the bottom with just four points to their name from eleven matches. Even if they win all matches from here, they would end up with just ten points and that isn’t going to cut it for them. Besides, they have a pretty poor net run rate of -0.894, which just demonstrates how poor they have been in all facets of the game.

With the tournament already over, Mumbai Indians might be looking forward to building the squad for the next edition. For that very reason they have signed Tristan Stubbs and he might come into the eleven in the upcoming might. We might also see Dewald Brevis make his way into the team to take the one-down position with Suryakumar Yadav ruled out of the remainder of the tournament.

On the bowling front, we might see them try their domestic contingent one more time just to evaluate their options for the next season. Basil Thampi can come in for Riley Meredith to open up an overseas spot. Also, it is pretty likely that they might well decide to replace an out-of-form Kieron Pollard with a specialist batsman.

All in all, Mumbai Indians may be down but they still have a lot of firepower left. A poor auction and injuries to their key players at the wrong time didn’t help their cause but they do have some match-winners available in Rohit Sharma, Tim David, Tilak Verma, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ishan Kishan. They would need to be at their very best against this high-flying Chennai Super Kings and if they can do that, they will certainly be in business big time.
