The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 mini-auction is set for December 23, Friday, in Kochi. All eyes are on the clubs, who have begun brainstorming strategies to boost the roster ahead of the new season.
One of the franchises, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), will need to rebuild and reorganize, although the team has a fund of Rs. 7.05 crore. The little kitty makes it harder for the auction side to bring in big stars, but they must use their money carefully.
Former Kolkata Knight Riders batter Robin Uthappa believes the team would seek three players before the auction to secure their services.
“In this auction, KKR will be seeking for three players, one of them would be an Indian backup wicketkeeper for Gurbaz. If they want to play both Tim Southee and Lockie Ferguson, Gurbaz will have to sit out since they are not going to remove Sunil Narine and Andre Russell. “The second player is a backup to Andre Russell,” Uthappa stated in a press statement ahead of the auction.

Furthermore, Uthappa stated that the team needed the services of backup players owing to the importance of travel. He also stated that the Kolkata franchise travels the’most’ in comparison to the other clubs.
“The IPL is returning to its original format. As a result, it will not be limit to one or two sites. There will be a lot of traveling involved. KKR is one of the most traveled teams. “Kolkata is a long distance away, and they go at least 2-3 thousand kilometers more than the other teams,” he explained.
“So, bearing those factors in mind, you will have to have a backup just in case, Russell pulls up or he has not recovered due to back-to-back bouts. The third option would be an Indian fast bowler to back up Shardul Thakur and Umesh Yadav. They have a handful of teenagers in their group, but they’d want to bring in someone like Jaydev Unadkat,” Uthappa remarked.
