BBL 22-23: Tymal Mills withdraws from the Perth Scorchers due to a family issue

BBL 22-23: Tymal Mills withdraws from the Perth Scorchers due to a family issue. The defending champions Perth Scorchers begin their season against last year’s finals Sydney Sixers.

Perth Scorchers, the defending BBL champions, have suffered a severe setback only days before their season opener against Sydney Sixers. Tymal Mills, withdraws from the competition citing a family emergency and will not play in a single game for the franchise. The Perth Scorchers are now on the lookout for a replacement player.

Opening hitter Philip Salt was ruled out of the competition earlier this month due to a shoulder ailment. Laurie Evans, the previous season’s star of the show in the finals, tested positive to a drug test, handing the Scorchers another defeat. As a result, he was force to leave the franchise. Tymal Mills’ departure hasn’t helped the Scorchers.

“The club completely supports Mills’ choice and expresses its thoughts and best wishes to his family during this time. “Perth is investigating alternatives for bringing in an international substitute player,” the Perth Scorchers stated in a statement.

Mitch Marsh, the Perth Scorchers‘ all-time top run-scorer, is another well-known personality who will miss the start of the season after undergoing ankle surgery. Last week, it announce that former England Test opener Adam Lyth will replace Phil Salt in the squad, while South African great Faf du Plessis will replace Evans.

Perth Scorchers seek replacement possibilities

However, the two players are only available for the first half of the event. Stephen Eskinazi, an English wicketkeeper-batter, has also just joined Perth’s squad. Jason Behrendorff, Matt Kelly, and Scorchers all-time top wicket-taker Andrew Tye are the only remaining pace options now that Mills left and speedster Lance Morris called up to the Australian Test team.

Jhye Richardson is also doing well after suffering a toe injury. He bowled hard on Monday, which is a good indication for the squad ahead of Saturday’s match against the previous season’s runners-up, the Sydney Sixers. With many injury worries in the roster, the Scorchers’ attempt to retain their crown in the current 12th season will be challenging.
