On Monday, September 19, the inaugural SA20 league’s first-ever auction completed smoothly. The six teams finally had their entire squads. Tristan Stubbs, a spectacular young South African batsman, ignited a bidding war. Sunrisers Eastern Cape ultimately obtaining his services for an amazing 9.2 million rand (USD 500,000 plus).

Tristan Stubbs, a spectacular young South African batsman, also ignited a bidding war. Sunrisers Eastern Cape ultimately obtaining his services for an amazing 9.2 million rand (USD 500,000 plus).

Following Stubbs, Rilee Roussouw and Marco Janse drew notice as the other two players to surpass the R6M milestone. Pretoria Capitals paid R6.9 million for Roussouw, while Sunrisers Eastern Cape paid R6.1 million for Jansen. While several players made huge money, Proteas captains Dean Elgar and Temba Bavuma, as well as seasoned Andile Phehlukwayo, did not.

Wayne Parnell and Sisanda Magala, two all-rounders, landed contracts for more than R5.0 million. The Paarl Royals and the Pretoria Capitals both recruited. New Zealand great James Neesham and former English white-ball skipper Eoin Morgan after they were initially unsold. Moreover, Donovan Ferreria was recruited by the Joburg Super Kings for a whopping R5.5 million. Quinton de Kock and Heinrich Klassen, two of South Africa’s best wicketkeeper-batters, have signed with the Durban Super Giants.
