“When I saw his runs and then read about it on social media over the last few days, it sounded like he had fallen into a deep depression. He, like many of us men, was unwilling to discuss or share it.

“It appears that when he began to share and talk, it simply freed him up a little and he began to feel better about himself again.

“I just hope he’s back to his best and in the World Cup. I’d rather see Virat come out here (in Australia) and be one of the tournament’s top players, but only if he doesn’t score too many runs against Australia when they play!” Ponting commented on the ICC Review.

Kohli looked sharp in the match against Hong Kong, scoring another half-century in T20 internationals with some trademark strokes.

Along with Suryakumar Yadav’s blitzkrieg, he hit three sixes and rotated the strike well to help the team finish with a big score.

India’s total of 192/2 was too much for Hong Kong, and the Rohit Sharma-led side won by 40 runs to advance to the Super-4 stage.
