Shikhar Dhawan, an Indian batter, praised Rohit Sharma, saying he has a strong bond and friendship with the Indian captain. The pair has long been India’s opening partners in One-Day Internationals, and they have also scored 5,000 runs as a pair in the format. Dhawan described it as a “significant milestone” in their careers.
Dhawan and Rohit are currently seventh in the list of most ODI runs score by a pair. The southpaw stated that he and Rohit understand each other’s games and are always looking for ways to complement each other.
“It’s a big milestone in both of our careers, and we have a very strong bond and friendship after 9 years,” Dhawan told the Times of India. “We’ve been playing together for so long that we’ve come to understand each other’s game, and we’re always looking for ways to help each other in the nets or on the field.”

Dhawan and Rohit have scored 5,170 runs in 116 matches, and they are only 37 runs away from passing the former West Indian pairing of Gordon Greenidge and Desmond Haynes. “Rohit has been a fantastic opening partner, and to have a milestone that I share with Rohit is a happy feeling,” the 36-year-old added.
Dhawan will be in action during India’s upcoming three-ODI tour of Zimbabwe, which begins on August 18. India announced their 15-man squad for the tour, with KL Rahul named captain in Rohit’s absence. Dhawan led the Indian team to a 3-0 victory in the previous ODI series against the West Indies.
Rahul, the team’s vice-captain, has been out with a groin injury since mid-June. Dhawan was initially named captain for the Zimbabwe series, but Rahul was given the job upon his return.
