Gustav McKeon of France becomes the youngest men’s player to score a T20I century. McKeon accomplished the feat while representing France in the third T20 World Cup 2024 Europe Sub-Regional Qualifier against Switzerland.

At the third T20 World Cup 2024 Europe Sub-Regional Qualifier competition in Finland, a world record was broken. At the age of 18 years and 280 days, Gustav McKeon of France became the youngest male player to hit a T20I century. During his 61-ball 109 against Switzerland in Vantaa, he hit five fours and nine sixes.

Hazratullah Zazai of Afghanistan previously held the record with an unbeaten 162* off 62 balls against Ireland in 2019. While Zazai set the record at the age of 20 years and 337 days. McKeon surpassed him and became the youngest Men’s player to do so. McKeon leads the tournament in runs with 185 and has a strike rate of 161 and an average of 92.50. McKeon’s century came after a gutsy 76 off 54 balls against the Czech Republic.

Even after reaching a century, McKeon’s France fell short of the target. Losing in a nail-biting final ball to their neighbors, who had set a target of 158. Faheem Nazir of Switzerland took the lead with a 46-ball 67, and Ali Nayyer’s heroics in the final over sealed the dramatic victory.

The third Sub-Regional tournament winner will compete in the Europe Qualifier.

Guernsey and Austria remain unbeaten in Group 1, while Luxembourg has lost both of its games. Bulgaria and Slovenia will face off in the competition for the first time on Wednesday (July 27). The Channel Islands are the group’s favorite, but Luxembourg gave them a run for their money with a 17-run victory.

Shiv Gill of Luxembourg was named Player of the Match after scoring 47 off 38 balls. But his efforts were futile as seamer William Peatfield took three wickets to turn the game around. The winner of the third Sub-Regional tournament will face the European teams that did not advance to the 2024 event, namely Ireland, the Netherlands, and Scotland, in the Europe Qualifier next year.
