Dinesh Chandimal breaks Kumar Sangakkara’s record to become the first Sri Lankan batter to reach a significant milestone against Australia. Sri Lanka now has a fighting chance of winning the second Test match and tying the two-match series 1-1 thanks to Chandimal’s efforts.

Dinesh Chandimal batted with grace and guts to help Sri Lanka post a massive total of 554 against Australia in the second Test at Galle. The middle-order batter finished unbeaten on 206 and thus became the first Sri Lankan batter to score a double century in Test cricket against Australia. He broke the previous record of 192 runs set by Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara in a Test in Hobart in November 2007.

Sri Lanka now has a fighting chance of winning the second Test match. Tying the two-match series 1-1 thanks to Chandimal’s efforts. The hosts have a 190-run lead, and their bowlers have given them a good start in the Australian second innings. Dismissing the likes of David Warner, Usman Khawaja, and Steve Smith with less than 80 runs on the board.

Chandimal is an experienced batter who has represented Sri Lanka in all three formats since 2010. However, had an up and down career, coming in and out of the team.
