Virender Sehwag named as the reserve wicketkeeper-batter in India T20 WC Squad.

There were several candidates for the reserve wicketkeeper-batsman spot, including Ishan Kishan, Dinesh Karthik, and Sanju Samson, but Sehwag chose Jitesh ahead of all of them.

“Ishan Kishan is a wicketkeeper-batter, Rishabh Pant is a wicketkeeper-batter, (Wriddhiman) Saha is a wicketkeeper-batter, but Jitesh Sharma has impressed me the most out of all of them.”

“He bats with such flair… Comes into bat and expresses himself without fear. He knows what ball I need to play a shot over the covers on, as well as what ball I need to play over mid-off and mid-on “Sehwag yelled.

Jitesh’s six against Yuzvendra Chahal, leaning outside the crease and lifting it over wide long-on, reminded Sehwag of VVS Laxman’s hit against Shane Warne.

“With the six he hit off Yuzvendra Chahal, he reminded me of VVS Laxman… Laxman used to hit Shane Warne over mid-wicket with an open stance. He has greatly impressed me.”

Jitesh, who purchased for Rs 20 lakh, has scored 162 runs in seven innings, going unbeaten twice, and has a strike rate of 167.
