Earlier, Mitchell Johnson called Cummins “gutless” and accused him of having an agenda to get the coach he wants, but the Test captain dismissed the charges.
“It’s not my responsibility to appoint the coach, but he’s been fantastic. We require a new coaching style and skill set “Cummins stated.
Cummins’ next captaincy assignment is a two-match tour of Sri Lanka in June and July, followed by a four-match tour of India beginning in September.
“The amount of confidence we will gain from winning here, not just as a team but so many individuals… being able to stand up to Asian conditions, it’s huge for the Sri Lanka tour later in the year,” Cummins said.
