Former Sri Lanka paceman Lasith Malinga has been named the new fast bowling coach of the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Rajasthan Royals (RR) ahead of the league’s upcoming season. Malinga will join RR’s management team, which includes his former Sri Lanka teammate Kumara Sangakkara, who is the franchise’s Director of Cricket. Malinga, who won four IPL titles with the Mumbai Indians, was last seen in action during the 2019 season. Notably, Malinga is the IPL’s leading wicket-taker, with 170 dismissals to his name.

IPL2022: Lasith Malinga new fast bowling coach of RR

Malinga has stated that he will retire from all formats of the game in January 2021. RR, who won the inaugural IPL in 2008, finished seventh with 10 points from 14 games last season and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

RR, on the other hand, bolstered their squad significantly during the IPL mega auction last month.

During the IPL auction, RR signed Shimron Hetmyer, Devdutt Padikkal, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Ravichandran Ashwin, among others.
