Ravi Ashwin lauds Rohit Sharma’s captaincy.

Ravichandran Ashwin, India’s off-spinner, lauded Rohit’s overall captaincy performance in the first Test against Sri Lanka. Rohit replaced Virat Kohli, India’s most successful Test captain, and the former has begun his captaincy run with a convincing win over Sri Lanka in the first Test.

Apart from Rohit’s captaincy, Ravindra Jadeja’s stellar performance with both bat and ball was one of the Test’s talking points. The left-hander hit a magnificent unbeaten 175 in the first innings and carried that form into his bowling, becoming the fourth Indian cricketer, after Vinoo Mankad, Polly Umrigar, and Ashwin, to bag a century and a fifer in the same Test. Other positives for India included Hanuma Vihari, who is currently vying for the number three spot in the batting order.

R Ashwin lauds Rohit : The way Rohit led the side had a lot of human elements to me

Ashwin emphasized that Rohit’s human elements were visible in his Test captaincy and recalled times when Rohit was keen to ensure everyone was at ease. He emphasize the importance of giving the third spinner, Jayant Yadav, some overs near the end, and the latter was very impressive.

“We all know how tactically strong and capable Rohit is. However, I noticed a lot of human elements in the way he led the side. He was keeping an eye out for anyone on the team, how everyone felt, and how everyone’s confidence is critical for the engine room to function. Jayant, the third spinner, under-bowl, but he wanted to look after him, and he want to rotate the bowlers. “How he kept the fast bowlers from one end all the way through the match,” Ashwin explained to the BCCI.

R Ashwin also revealed that Rohit wanted Jadeja to complete his double century despite the impending declaration, and that it was Jadeja’s decision to declare the innings.

“Above and beyond all of these tactical considerations, he kept the game simple. He wanted Jadeja to get a double hundred when it came time to declare. It was eventually Jaddu who said it wasn’t important and that you should go for a declaration. So, I’m sure Rohit has a lot of experience with all of that. “I thought he did a fantastic job,” Ashwin added. Meanwhile, the second Test will be a day-night game in Bengaluru from March 12 to 16.
