Ravi Ashwin is lauded by Marnus Labuschagne. According to Labuschagne, Ashwin experiments with different methods of taking wickets and is never short of options.

Ravichandran Ashwin, one of the finest spinners to have ever graced the game, has been nothing short of a nightmare for batters in his Test career thus far. While the talismanic off-spinner has a stunning record in home Tests, his international numbers have also improved in recent years. In fact, he was crucial in India’s 2-1 victory over Australia last year.

Ashwin took 12 wickets in three games on the fast Australian pitches. He also chastised Marnus Labuschagne, the current top-ranked Test batter. When asked about his battle with the Indian spinner, the right-handed batter described Ashwin as a “tremendous thinker of the game.” Labuschagne, commenting on the spinner’s success, said the 35-year-old “explores different ways of taking wickets and is never short of options.”

Marnus Labuschagne: Not every bowler is Ravi Ashwin

“Ashwin’s record is so good because he’s a fantastic game thinker.” So he’s always thinking about how he can get you out. Regarding what you’re doing. So, what is he doing to counteract that? And then he appears to say, “Okay, now I’m going to change so that you’ll do this.” That’s what makes him so good. “Now, not all bowlers are like that,” Ashwin was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

“There are other bowlers who have really good deliveries and can bowl really well, but getting you out is an acquired skill,” he added. Marnus, in particular, is currently in Pakistan for a historic all-format series. As a result, he’s planning to take on the spin challenge in the subcontinental country. His battle with Ashwin, on the other hand, would have given the youngster a good idea of how to deal with quality spin.

Meanwhile, Labuschagne praised Ashwin’s international success. “I think Ashwin has played on a lot of wickets where he had to make the work, make the angles, come tight or come wide.” That’s why it’s so beneficial to play against players like Ashwin. “You obviously have to up your game because he’s upped his game,” the 27-year-old added.
