India scored 258/4 at stumps on Day 1 of the first Test against New Zealand in Kanpur. With Ravindra Jadeja reaching his 17th Test half-century and rookie Shreyas Iyer scoring his maiden Test fifty. After stand-in captain Ajinkya Rahane became Kyle Jamieson’s third victim, Iyer and Jadeja embarked up an unbroken 113-run fifth wicket stand.
On 75 runs, Iyer was unbroken, and Jadeja was on 50. The duo did a good job of rebuilding after New Zealand had reduced India to 145/4. India did not lost a single wicket in the last session.
On Day 1 of the first Test in Kanpur, opener Shubman Gill was removed in the first over of the post-lunch session. Followed by Cheteshwar Pujara. Tim Southee removed India’s No. 3 batsman. Once again, he failed to turn a strong start into a massive score.

Pujara hasn’t hit the three-figure mark since 2019, and he’s still waiting. Gill had earlier dominated New Zealand bowlers with a 52-run knock and scored 61 runs for the second wicket with Pujara.
