David Warner (T20 World Cup): Australia batsman Steve Smith claimed opener David Warner came into the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup with a lot of determination, despite the fact that many people had written him off following a poor performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. Warner was named Player of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup after scoring 289 runs and bowling a key 53-run knock in the tournament final against New Zealand, guiding his side to an eight-wicket victory.
“It means a great deal to me. We’ve put in a lot of effort over the years, and it’s an honor to be here with the boys and bring the trophy home. Warner has had an incredible last two weeks. Many people had written him off. He came in with a lot of determination and seized control of the game right away “After the game, Smith stated.
Some questioned Warner’s selection in the Australian lineup after his IPL side SunRisers Hyderabad withdrew him from the playing XI.
Mitchell Starc, speaking about Australia’s victory, said: “It hasn’t been the most ideal build-up. However, this was the closest the men had ever come, and it showed in the way we played cricket. We’ve been through a lot with various guys in different games and our friendship with the guys. Over the last two years, Zampa has been by far the finest bowler in the white ball. We’ve figured out how to bowl around him. Our duties in the bowling group are now much evident.”
Australia captain Aaron Finch remarked after winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup that he couldn’t believe people had written Warner off before the event even begun.
