Before the abrogation of Article 370, J&K was significantly better: Ghulam Nabi Azad

Before the abrogation of Article 370: “We were assured that when Art 370 is repealed, the situation in Jammu and Kashmir will change. Growth, hospitals, and unemployment will all be addressed. That, however, has not occurred.”

Ghulam Nabi Azad, a senior Congress leader, claimed on Sunday that Jammu and Kashmir was “much better” before Article 370 was repealed, adding that nothing has changed despite the BJP-led government’s promises of reform.

“We were assured that when Art 370 is repealed, the situation in Jammu and Kashmir will change. Growth, hospitals, and unemployment will all be addressed. That, however, has not occurred. In fact, when it was run by several CMs, we were considerably better,” Nabi said to ANI.

The consequences of stripping J&K of its statehood, according to Nabi, are being felt by the people. “So, we’re a big loser.” After the state has been divided into two, we are a huge loss. Since the Assembly was dissolved, we have been a huge loser,” he remarked.

Before the abrogation of Article 370: His remarks come as Union Minister Amit Shah arrives in Jammu and Kashmir for a three-day visit on Saturday, his first since the government repealed Article 370 two years ago.

The visit of Shah comes amid a wave of civilian deaths in the Valley. Militants have killed 11 civilians in the Valley in the last two weeks, including migrants and non-Muslim Kashmiris.
