Monank Patel replaces Saurabh Netravalkar as USA T20I World Cup Qualifier captain

Monank Patel: Xavier Marshall and Ali Khan have been called up for the US T20 World Cup qualifying campaign.

First-order hitter Monank Patel was named captain of the US T20I after the starter. Saurabh Netravalkar decided to quit to focus on bowling. “The appointment of Monank Patel as USA’s new T20I captain comes after the 50-over captain, Saurabh Netravalkar, requested the opportunity to focus fully on his bowling in the shortest format of the game,” USA men’s selection chairman Michael Voss said in a press statement. “He [Netravalkar] had done that with great success during the recent Minor League Cricket competition and the selection panel were fully supportive of his decision.”

Netravalkar played for Silicon Valley Strikers, the champions, in the recently concluded MiLC T20 tournament, the team is led by former Indian under-19 world champion captain Unmukt Chand.

Monank Patel has been one of the most consistent bullies in America since he debuted with the national team in the summer of 2018.

He scored a T20 century in his second game against Belize. That was four months before all international T20s achieved T20I status. He has scored three 50s for the United States over the centuries, the last of them even 100 against Nepal last month, the only one in ODI.

His appointment came less than two years after he came into conflict with the US cricket administration.
