Monank Patel: Xavier Marshall and Ali Khan have been called up for the US T20 World Cup qualifying campaign.
First-order hitter Monank Patel was named captain of the US T20I after the starter. Saurabh Netravalkar decided to quit to focus on bowling. The leadership change was announced on Tuesday when the US announced its roster for next month’s T20 World Cup of the Americas qualifier, to be played in Antigua between November 7-14.
Four players have also been recalled, including Xavier Marshall and Ali Khan, who were available after a two-year absence as they took advantage of opportunities in the T20 franchise circle.
“The appointment of Monank Patel as USA’s new T20I captain comes after the 50-over captain, Saurabh Netravalkar, requested the opportunity to focus fully on his bowling in the shortest format of the game,” USA men’s selection chairman Michael Voss said in a press statement. “He [Netravalkar] had done that with great success during the recent Minor League Cricket competition and the selection panel were fully supportive of his decision.”
Netravalkar played for Silicon Valley Strikers, the champions, in the recently concluded MiLC T20 tournament, the team is led by former Indian under-19 world champion captain Unmukt Chand.
Monank Patel has been one of the most consistent bullies in America since he debuted with the national team in the summer of 2018.
He scored a T20 century in his second game against Belize. That was four months before all international T20s achieved T20I status. He has scored three 50s for the United States over the centuries, the last of them even 100 against Nepal last month, the only one in ODI.
His appointment came less than two years after he came into conflict with the US cricket administration. During ODI’s tour of the UAE in December 2019 for his role in an alcohol incident that resulted in which Steven Taylor struck the vice-captain of the USA was revoked. Aaron Jones will now serve as vice-captain after recovering from a hand injury that ruled him out, but he was one of six ODIs the United States played in Oman in September.
Ali Khan‘s return to the US was announced on his social media accounts in recent weeks. As he replaced the profile photos that previously featured him in his Trinbago Knight Riders kit. With images of his best moments in the USA has not played for the USA. Since the final day of WCL Division Two in Namibia in April 2019. Where they finished as the tournament’s wicket-taker leader to help the USA secure ODI status.
He had been inducted into Team USA for the same T20 regional qualifying event in Bermuda in August 2019. But he sprained his ankle in a training session the night before the first game. And did not enter the field for the USA. As they suffered an embarrassing series of results losing four games to Canada. And Bermuda for failing to advance to the UAE T20 global qualifier.
Xavier Marshall was recalled after he had a good run for Somerset (NJ) Cavaliers in the MiLC
Marshall is one of four other players who have been retired. Giving him a chance to atone for his worst tour of the United States at the corresponding event in Bermuda.
The 35-year-old scored 55 runs in five innings against Bermuda, Canada. And the Cayman Islands before being dropped off for the last game of the tour.
His last appearances for the USA came on the ODI tour of Nepal in February 2020. Where he scored 54 runs in four innings when the USA went without a win.
The other two retired players were fast pitcher Rusty Theron, who had withdrawn. From the recent ODI US tour of Oman due to personal commitments. And Ian Holland, who also did not play for the Tour of Oman was available. Both players have yet to make their T20I debut for the US.
Another player added to the list. Trinson Carmichael, a 29-year-old from New York, the left arm, has yet to make his US debut.
Carmichael had 21 wickets in 18 games averaging 12.62 and an economy of 4.91. For the Empire State Titans at MiLC.
He was preferred by 19-year-old former USA player Vatsal Vaghela, who finished third in MiLC. With 29 wickets in 17 games with an average of 11.41 and an economy of 5.49 for the Golden State Grizzlies.
To accommodate the five incoming players, the US national team dropped speedy Kyle Phillip, Jessy Singh, and Abhishek Paradkar; The thugs Sushant Modani, Dominique Rikhi, and Sanjay Krishnamurthi; and left-arm spinner Nosthush Kenjige.
