Ajit Agarkar Weighs In On, Whether India Should Tinker With ICC T20 World Cup Squad

Ajit Agarkar Weighs In On: ICC T20 World Cup: Ajit Agarkar believes that there should be no changes to the Team India roster unless there are injury issues.

Highlights

The stage of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) in the United Arab Emirates has given some headaches to the Indian selectors and the team management. The Indian roster for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup was announced on September 8, 11 days before IPL resumed in the UAE. Since then, several selected players from the squad have not shown any performance in the T20 league. This is of great concern to the management of the Indian team, as the World Cup will also be held in the United Arab Emirates and Oman under similar conditions.

Players like Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, and Rahul Chahar who joined the team have not done well, which has also resulted in a big drop in the form of the two-time defending IPL champion Mumbai Indians.

On the other hand, players like Shikhar Dhawan, Sanju Samson, and Yuzvendra Chahal are successful. Many see these seasoned players as surprising failures and with the ICC allowing roster changes until October 10, there is a chance that the final roster will be altered. Even reserve players like Shardul Thakur and Deepak Chahar made a good impression compared to Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

But former Indian Paceman Ajit Agarkar believes there should be no changes to the team unless there are injury concerns.

Ajit Agarkar Weighs In On Whether India Should Tinker With ICC T20 World Cup Squad – Evening Standard

“In my opinion, once you have picked the squad for World Cup – barring injury – I don’t think you should make any changes. Yes, there are guys at the moment who are not in their great form, but it only takes one inning – whether it’s bowling or batting – to change that form around, and that could still happen before the end of the IPL,” Agarkar said while speaking exclusively on Star Sports show Cricket Connected.

“So, if you think that’s the best 15 you’ve picked going to the World Cup, my personal opinion, I would stick with it, because you have got to show faith in people even when things are not looking so good, because things can turn around very quickly,” Agarkar added.
