Australia’s Test captain Tim Paine said last month that teams could refuse to play in the World Cup in Afghanistan. And asked how the International Cricket Council, the sport’s world governing body, could sanction their participation in the tournament.
The ICC will discuss Afghanistan and women’s cricket at its next board meeting during the World Cup. Finch would not say whether Australia would be comfortable with the Afghans playing at the World Cup. Where they will not meet unless both teams reach at least the semi-finals.
The Afghan men’s team prepares for the Twenty20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates and Oman starting October 17.
“That’s an ICC decision,” he said.”We’re hopeful that things can resolve themselves and Afghanistan can play a huge part in international cricket.
“We’ve seen how important they are, the development of their game in Afghanistan no doubt is huge.”
