Umran Malik pitched his full rate of 4 overs and missed just 27 runs while unsettling left-handed hitter Nitish Rana. The KKR batsman struggled to cope with the pace and rebound of the fast-paced young bowler who impressed some on his IPL debut.

Notably, Umran Malik was hired by the SRH as a temporary replacement for T Natarajan after the pacemaker for his left arm was unavailable due to Covid19. Nataraj arrived in the UAE with SRH but was forced to isolate himself after testing positive for the virus. Umran was a network pitcher for SRH at the 2021 IPL.

“He has just played 1 T20 game. See somebody made a very good point during commentary – Jasprit Bumrah was picking like this. Today see, where he is. You never know. His run-up, his action everything resembles a bit of Waqar Younis’s style. He has a very good rhythmic run-up and he is able to bowl at a good pace.

“The way he was making Nitish Rana dance was amazing,” he added.

Umran Malik only played 2 T20s and a List A match. He made his debut for Jammu and Kashmir at the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy earlier this year. The young pacemaker impressed in his domestic debut and won 3 wickets against Railways at Alur.

In February he made his A-List debut at the Vijay Hazare Trophy against Bengal in Calcutta, conceding 98 runs in his 10-over spell.

SRH are at the bottom of the 2021 IPL points chart after winning just 2 of their first 12 games. Kane Williamson’s men are the first team to be eliminating from the playoffs.
